Pipes for gas, compressed air, water and roof drainage Swisspearl, Niederurnen (Switzerland)

Swisspearl – formerly Eternit – produces building material for shell construction. A key feature of the new building at the company’s headquarters is its sustainable energy concept, which includes a large-scale photovoltaic installation on the roof and a colour-coordinated facade-mounted photovoltaic installation on the east side of the building. The building also demonstrates how facades can help generate energy.

The Geberit Pluvia siphonic roof drainage system was used for roof drainage. Geberit Mapress Stainless Steel was chosen to handle various other media such as gas, compressed air and cooling water. The pressing system impressed thanks to easy installation, clean pipe routing and high stability – a crucial factor, even with large pipe diameters.

Geberit FlowFit was used to drain condensation, matching the client’s tone-on-tone colour scheme and ensuring the installations blend seamlessly into the production hall.

Colour was also an important factor in the design of the condensate pipework: with the silver-grey pipes from Geberit FlowFit chosen to ensure they blended in perfectly with the hall .

“Normally, you’d use PE pipes here”, says project manager Jürg Menzi from Swisspearl. “But the hall is our calling card. Aesthetics play an important role. Black pipes in front of shiny machinery would stand out too much.”

Karl Stüssi, owner of the contracted plumbing company, thanks him for the choice: “Geberit FlowFit allowed us to work faster than with other systems. That made a real difference on a project of this scale.”
